The classic way to break a password is to run a brute force attack using a dictionary of known password or part-of-password. Of course the attacker will first try to break your password as if it is weak,
that is to say if it contains only letter and will first try simple words or first-names or pet names, etc.
There is at least a few hundred of thousand of such words but if the hacker has a quick access to the process that validate the password,
this will only takes seconds or minutes to find yours.
Of course the longer your password is, the better is it. For example there is 208.827.064.576 possible 8 small letters passwords but 95.428.956.661.682.176 possible 12 letters passwords.
Fortunatly, if you use small letters and cap letters your password is safer as there are more possibilities to investigate.
Adding numbers and even symbol really strengthen up your password. Indeed, there are 6.634.204.312.890.625 possible 8 characters passwords (using small and cap letters, numbers and symbols) and 540.360.087.662.636.962.890.625 possible 12 characters passwords.
Despite you will be able to remerber the generated password easily, the latter will be compound of small and cap letters, numbers, and symbols and thus looks like (in fact is) a strong password. The only weakness of this method is you : you have to keep your secret word and your private number for yourself.
What if the hacker knows the Simple Password Generator method ? Well, this will of course slightly discrease the strength of the generated password but don't worry, there is still a huge amount of possibilities to investigate
if the hacker does not know your secret word and keynumber.
This page is also avalaible using https protocole so that the generated password is not transported clear on the network, thus providing more security.
Of course you will have to accept the security exception raised by your browser (if needed) and trust my TLS/SSL certificate.
If you are not using https, be aware that if somebody is sniffing your connection, he can easily intercept all the password you are generating here.
A way to discourage such attack is to generate a very long password with the Tunable Password Generator (let's say 4096 characters) and use only a part of it.
